My Father

My Father is truly, truly my SuperHero! I can remember as a small child, my father was in the Air Force, and unlike many Air Force families we were fortunate not to have to travel as much as other families. We were very fortunate to have great base assignments, with the New Hampshire assignment not being one we enjoyed as much. I was pretty small, but I barely remember a few things about being there. When my father and mother were first married, my father was stationed at White Sands New Mexico. He was fortunate enough to become acquainted with two LDS members of the church. Although he never really got into any in depth conversations about the gospel, he was certainly impressed by their demeanor, and the way they represented the church. We were stationed after that in San Antonio, and Waco, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico, and then Orlando, Fl. but I think he tried to pattern his life after what he had seen from his friends he had known previously. In 1961, while being stationed in Puerto Rico, my mom befriended a lady named Mary Douglas, who was an inactive member of the church, and after several years they were reassigned to McCoy Air Force Base, in Orlando. Not much later, we also were reassigned to McCoy, and mother and Mary were able to reunite. Mary and her kids were reactivated in the church, and asked to send the missionaries. What a wonder gift to give our family. Although, I was in Texas with Christie visiting my Grandparent's, my parent's were baptised that summer in Fla. In fact upon meeting the missionaries, my father said, "I've been waiting all my life for you to come along!" My folks came to Texas to visit later that summer, and we learned of the gospel at that time. Because Christie and I decided to spend the school year here, She and I were baptised on Sept. 9, 1967 at the 7th St. Chapel. I can say for myself, my life has been so blessed, and I truly don't know where I have landed without it. I owe it all to my Father, had he not been able to meet such good examples of the gospel, had he not been so receptive to the missionaries, and most of all, if he had not had enough Faith to carry me, when at times, I couldn't stand on my own. With the ups and downs I have had in my life, in the past few years, I know his Father's Blessings have at times gotten me off the bathroom floor, or made it possible to sleep through the night, after being up with no sleep for four or five days, or generally helped me be able to make critical decisions when I was on my own. I know his belief in the "Power of the Priesthood." has been such a relief to our whole family, and their are not enough words that can think him for bringing that to our Family.

I Love you , Daddy and hope you have a Great Father's Day

OSCAR

Well, Oscar is on his way tonight to Mississippi, on the first leg of his new adventure. We thought he and Matt would be together, but now it looks like that's not going to happen. I just want Oscar to know how proud of him I am! It takes a very brave man to leave his family here, to go protect our country, a country that he wasn't born in, but he fought very hard to become a citizen of. I love him very much, and am proud to call him my son-in-law, no to call him my son.

My New Camera!

Okay, so I guess by now everyone has figured out that I am electronically challenged. I didn't used to be. In fact, people would call me to be their own little help desk, and I have to tell you, I thought I was pretty good at it, gosh darn it! All of a sudden, I can't operate anything! I can't figure out how to store phone #'s in the home phone, and don't get me started on the cell phones, I can store #'s on it, but to put ring tones on my phone, it ain't happenin' unless one of my daughters has mercy on me and does it for me. ( I swear I used to know how to do that, and I could even assign different ringtones to different people so I would know who was calling me, just by the ringtone.) And our Satelite has a mind of it's own, cuz it does some really weird things, and not on all of the boxes at the same time. And my blog, I have to make phone calls to Shannon at least 3 or 4 times if I want to change anything on my blog.

Anyway, I bought a new camera today. Not a real expensive one, just one that Kariann assures me is "idiot proof." So here's the deal.........If you start seeing pictures on my blog, you'll know not only did I figure out how to use the camera, but I also figured out to get them on my blog! Or maybe not...........

It's Shannon and Oscar's Anniversary!

Today is Shannon and Oscar's Anniversary! I can't hardly believe it has been 12 years! I called to wish them Happy Anniversary, because she has been known to confuse her Anniversary with Kariann's from her first marraige. In fact, the first year that Kariann was married, Shannon called Kariann and wished her Happy Anniversary, and her next phone call was to me to remind me it was Kariann's Anniversary. After we got off the phone, I kept thinking, this isn't Kariann's Anniversary, it's Shannon and Oscar's Anniversary! So I called Oscar and I said: "It's your anniversary dude!" and he said: "No it's not, Shannon would have told me it was our Anniversary, she said it was "Kay Kay's Anniversary." I reminded him that he got married on May 24th, my late grandfather's birthday, it was Labor Day weekend, and Kariann got married on June 26th, my neices birthday. The funny thing is when Shannon called Kay Kay to wish her Happy Anniversary she didn't realize it was the wrong date either. It's not any wonder there was some confusion, we had five weddings in a 15 month period. We had one in March (my nephew Aaron ), one in May ( Shannon and Oscar), one in August ( Jennifer and Kraig ), one in November ( Leslie and Shane ), and one the next June ( Kariann and Donnie.) It was a wild year, full of fun and excitement, hard work, and sometimes tears, but mostly Tons of love! I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

Shannon's my Life Saver!

I haveto say, Shannon is my Life Saver when it comes to this Blogging thing. Everytime I have a problem with my blog site, all I have to do is call her,and she can usually walk me through it. Even if she's building a huge Jungle Gym in the backyard. Anyway, at some point last night I managed to wipe the playlist out of my Mp3 player. I don't know how I did it, but I did it! I looked on my mixpod edit page and the Mp3 player was still there, the playlist was still there, and it played just fine on that page, but whin Iwould try to play it on my Blog Page it wouldn't play because there wasn't a playlist. I worked till late in the evening, and finally gave up in defeat. I called her this afternoon, and she waved her Magic Wand, and fixed it. Now, if she could just get Zander to wear something besides pajamas to church. Well, better go, Papa just dropped his cell phone in the potty!

Rainy Days

I just love Rainy Saturdays. They take me back to when the kids were little and we would all snuggle up in my big 'ole king size bed and take turns reading "chapter books" to each other, actually, it was usually whatever I was reading that week. And sometimes, we might get an "accidental nap" out of the deal. How I would love to have those days back!

Swine Flu

Okay, so hears the deal. When I worked in the E.R. twenty something years ago, I was told by one of the Infectious Diseases Dr.that there are aproximately 13,000 deaths a year in the U. S. from the regular flu, but typically people don't know it. It's when they give it a name, "Asian Flu, Hong Kong Flu, etc" that people freak out. Now typically, I'm not one that freaks out about these things, but when my new son-in-law was sent home with fever and vomiting, I totally freaked! I was on the phone every hour trying to get updates on him. I even made Kariann get a surgical mask for him to wear, from the vet's office, when they went to pick Shannon's dog that had been poisoned up. (That's a whole nother story!) Maybe, they shouldn't name these Flu's.

I can't believe I did this.

Okay, so here is the deal. Since Shannon has started her blog, she has been bugging me to create my own. She said to me, "Mom, you really need to do this, it is so much fun!" And I'm thinking to myself, "Yeah right, I've had my new cell phone 4 months, and I barely, know how to use it!" I can't even get onto my "myspace" without Kariann walking me through it. In fact, I don't even try anymore. If I want anything posted, I just make a list and wait for her to come over so she can post for me. Anyway, I have had such a good time creating my blog! Shannon had to help me get started in the very beginning, but it didn't take long for me to catch on, now I don't want to stop. I figured out how to put music on all by myself! Yeah me! It's mostly oldies...... but all I have to say is "THE BEATLES ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!" Now for my next step in this journey, Pictures! Wish me luck!
